Courtney’s research focus is on the relationship between freshwater microbial communities and aquatic insects during leaf litter decomposition. Prior to NAU, Courtney worked as field trip educator for the Ohio River Foundation in the Cincinnati metropolitan area. Here, she shared her passion for science by teaching students the ecology of stream ecosystems through hands-on (or more accurately, feet-wading) activities in local streams. Courtney gained even more experience on the Ohio River as a lab technician at the Center for Ohio River Research and Education at the Thomas More College Biology Field Station. Freshwater research is her passion, and she is excited to gain a better understanding of the complexities of freshwater ecosystems at the microbial level.
