Gena has had prior experience researching microbial ecology at Harvard Forest. Through the Western Forest Initiative she has had the opportunity to research old growth forest dynamics. For her graduate degree she is co-advised by Dr. Hungate and Dr. Schwartz. Gena plans on using quantitative Stable Isotope Probing to study microbial ecology and see how microbial communities are changing as a consequence of climate change.
