ECOSS Prospective Student Retreat

Winter 2016 Prospective Student Retreat Was Great

Ecoss hosted prospective graduate students for a two day visit this winter in February. The next Student Retreat will take place in the winter/spring 2017. Check back here for details as they become available.

Attendance was by invitation only, and prospective students had first applied to the the NAU Biological Sciences Department. Individual faculty then invited students dependent upon mutual interest.

Spring 2015 Prospective Student Retreat a Success

On the weekend of March 6, 2015, prospective graduate students were invited to visit Flagstaff so that both the prospective students and Ecoss faculty and students could become acquainted with one another.

Friday began with bagels and coffee and was an opportunity for the prospective students to socialize with current members of Ecoss before the students met individually with faculty members and toured the Ecoss labs. On Friday night, everyone met at Ted Schuur and Michelle Mack’s house for a catered dinner and more opportunities to interact.

On Saturday, the prospective students were given the opportunity to explore Flagstaff through cross-country skiing in the mountains just north of town, a brief visit to Arizona Snowbowl near the top of the San Francisco Peaks, and a tour of Lowell Observatory. Saturday concluded with dinner at Beaver Street Brewery followed by drinks and a game of Cards Against Humanity at the Wine Loft in downtown Flagstaff.

The retreat was a great opportunity for prospective students and to get to know more about Ecoss and NAU, the faculty and current post-docs and graduate students, and Flagstaff and the surrounding outstanding environment.
